Goran Ivanisevic outlines his 'ideal' career after Novak Djokovic split leaving fans waiting for a new trajectory

As for Ivanisevic, he was more elaborate in explaining the details and reasoning behind the split. He also defended the Serb from the claims of poorly behaving with his coaching staff. The 52-year-old also didn’t back down from showing his loyalty towards the Djoker, wishing the Olympics gold for him this year.

As he now takes a step back from coaching and relaxing, the next step for him is quite the question for everyone. In a recent interview with ‘The Tennis Podcast‘, he hinted at what he was planning to do in the coming days and whether he would make a return to coaching soon. 

I would like to coach again. I think I still have a lot to give. To work with a younger player starting out. Build something together. That would be idea. Said Ivanisevic, speaking on the podcast.

Goran Ivanisevic is yet to work with an upcoming player

So far in his coaching career, the Croatian has worked with four players. He first coached Marin Cilic guiding his compatriot to the US Open singles title in 2014, the highlight of Cilic’s glorious career. Following their split, Ivanisevic joined forces with Tomas Berdych but it lasted for only one year.

The former Wimbledon winner then took over the charge of Milos Raonic . That partnership also ended after a year amid a massive communication gap between the two. The coach would go on to claim the Canadian needed a ‘psychiatrist more than a coach’.

Post 2018, Ivanisevic had been working with Djokovic. The two won numerous titles together at all tiers breaking records for fun. Now as he parts ways with Nole, it will be an interesting challenge for him. Given his lack of experience working with a new player, Ivanisevic’s work will be crucial and put to the test.

But all interested players need to wait till at least September 2024. The Croatian was clear in taking some time away from the court and enjoying some peace before getting back on the Tour.
