ESPN analyst doesn't seem to understand why the Raiders drafted one of the best players in the draft
Nathan Ray Seebeck-USA TODAY Sports

The Las Vegas Raiders maybe didn't plan to draft tight end Brock Bowers or even offensive guard Jackson Powers-Johnson, but that doesn't make them bad picks. The Brock Bowers pick has gotten a lot of negative feedback from the media and the fan base on drafting Bowers.

When you first think about it, it makes sense that people are upset because they really need a quarterback, a cornerback, and an offensive tackle. They didn't address their CB need until the fourth round and the OT need in the third round.

But Bowers was absolutely the right pick. At first, I was in the same exact boat. But then again, Bowers was staring right at them. Some media still don't understand why the Raiders made the pick and labeled it as a 'head-scratcher' when it is the opposite. The Raiders' decision was not a mistake; it was a calculated move to secure a player with immense potential. This defense of the pick should reassure the audience and instill confidence in the team's choices.

Liz Loza: Tight end Brock Bowers to the Las Vegas Raiders at No. 13. I was stupefied by the Raiders' selection of Bowers, and it's not because of his talent level. He's a potential generational talent with a do-it-all skill set that was expected to come off the board before the first half of the first round. However, Las Vegas spent an early second-round pick on Michael Mayer just a year ago and entered the draft with holes all along the offensive line. In the end, I suppose, the value Bowers presented was too great to pass on.

Brock Bowers, the player the Raiders chose, is not just a good player, he's considered the greatest player out of the draft. He just so happens to play a position that isn't as important as the quarterback position, among others. Bowers has the potential to be the best player to come out of this draft, yet he was available at No. 13. This should instill a sense of hope and optimism in the Raiders' fan base, as they have a potential game-changer on their hands.

When the Raiders went on their board, and their QB plan had already fallen apart, why would they not take the best player who plays on the side of the ball with whom they need the most help? They are putting as many weapons around Aidan O'Connell and Gardner Mionshew as possible to help the two in 2024.

The draft decision makes perfect sense.
