Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel sarcastically responds to breaking record

In the Miami Dolphins' 31-16 win over the New York Giants Sunday, they broke the NFL record for most total yards of any team through their first five games of the season.

After nearly breaking the record for most points scored in a game in NFL history when they defeated the Denver Broncos 70-20 in Week 3, the offense has looked like the sharpest unit since “The Greatest Show on Turf.”

While the accomplishment shows the impressive consistency and talent displayed under head coach Mike McDaniel, his focus relies on different goals than statistical output. In what has become a signature of the young coach, his sarcasm and dry humor were on full display when he was asked about his thoughts on the record.

“Mission accomplished,” McDaniel said. “Our whole goal this entire offseason was statistical output through five games.”

The comment is an extension of McDaniel's personality that has been on display since he took over. From every mic’d-up moment to postgame press conference, he continues to become of the most popular coaches across the country.

The Dolphins control their destiny as they sit atop the AFC East. Their lone loss this season came to the Buffalo Bills, but despite that loss, they have looked like one of the most well-rounded and strongest offensive teams in the NFL, largely in part to McDaniel’s scheming and complete trust in his young QB, Tua Tagovailoa.

If they are able to continue this pace, they will be on the short list of teams favored to win the Super Bowl once the playoffs begin, and Tagovailoa, Tyreek Hill and De’Von Achane will all be in line for individual awards for their performances.
