F1 introduced sprint races in 2021 to increase the entertainment throughout the weekend. The decision-makers initially tested the format by holding three sprint weekends across the 2021 season, but it has now doubled for this year. However, this change has not been appreciated in the paddock as multiple drivers have lamented the format, Lando Norris is the latest addition to the list.

Max Verstappen is prominently known for his strong stance against sprint races. However, F1 does not seem to be intending to reduce the number of sprint races anytime soon and is even planning to increase its quantity in the coming seasons.

Subsequently, this development has not gone down well with Lando Norris, who gave his perspective on the pressing issue.

I still prefer a normal race weekend, in my opinion. I think it's probably better for the fans. It's not for us, right. It's for the fans, it’s for the people watching. If it's good to watch, if it's good for you guys then that's why we do it in the first place. It’s not to make us any happier while driving, or have more fun, so I don't think it's a question for us. Lando Norris said in an interview with RacingNews365

The Brit claimed that he preferred the normal race weekend instead of the sprint race format. Furthermore, he revealed that the sprint race format is just for fans and does not bring any excitement to the drivers who are participating in it. From Norris’s perspective, he’d rather switch back to the old ways of doing things if the decision-making power was in his hand.

Zak Brown claims Lando Norris is ahead of Oscar Piastri

The 24-year-old has been performing at a high level for the past few seasons. Moreover, the Brit has been the only McLaren driver to have claimed a podium in the ongoing season. This disparity in results and pace has led to experts raising eyebrows around Oscar Piastri‘s lack of results in the MCL38.

Subsequently, when asked about why the Aussie was getting outshined by his teammate, Zak Brown explained the reason behind it.

I think it’s experience. These tires and race management is very difficult. So, if you look at Oscar’s qualifying, he is very close to Lando[Norris] and outqualifies him. And in the race, he still has a bit of work to do but it’s less about out and out pace, it’s about tire management and that’s really just something you get with experience. The American explained that Norris was significantly more experienced than Piastri and this is the reason behind the pace difference. Moreover, Norris has now learned how to manage the tires which is a difficult task in the race. This is one area, in which Piastri would keep on learning as he progresses through his career.

Apart from this, the Woking-based team is setting its sights on performing well in Miami. The team has announced that they will be bringing upgrades to the American circuit and thus, has hopes of mounting a challenge for second place in the constructor standings.
